to bring to your attention. this coming to us out of oregon. in fact, a suburb of portland, oregon. you can see emergency vehicles are responding to a shopping center where apparently an active shooter is inside the mall. take a look at the number of cars that are in the parking lot and being that this is peak christmas shopping season, you can imagine there are probably quite a few people inside that mall at this time. we don't know much about this but we have been told that there are possibly multiple victims. again, this is an active shooter and a breaking situation and you can see that some of the emergency vehicles are still arriving on the scene. again, a suburb of portland, oregon. these pictures coming to us from the helicopter live courtesy of our affiliate, katu. we will keep an eye on this story for you and as we zoom in to see if we can see a stretcher is coming out of that ambulance but it looks like it's an empty one. at this point, only some of the reports suggesting there have been multiple victims but we don't know if there have been any people killed. we will continue to g

a bit of snow in california, still a foot of snow across portions of cascades and washington and oregon we're talking close to two feet. very good news for anyone doing skiing. good news is this storm system is on the move we'll finally start to see improvement in weather conditions across portions of the west coast, seattle, down to california. christmas leave looks more tranquil. that snow will dumping snow in portions of rockies and colorado and wyoming. we'll be accumulating snowfall and eventually this storm is going to head into the center of the country. it will be a pretty strong storm and very cold air with it. so definitely we're going to be talking about snow accumulations texas panhandle, parts of arkansas and missouri and illinois. some of these countries don't see a white christmas. so we're talking about quite a bit of snow, up to six inches locally and higher amounts, a winter storm watch has been issued across the state of oklahoma. good news for anyone that wants snow in the center of the country. christmas eve, messy day out in southeast and thunderstorms ahead of tha

on an icy interstate in oregon. these weather systems are something that we have been watching tonight. state police are telling us that 20 others were injured when the vehicle crashed through a guardrail and traveled down an embankment. some of the injured taken to local hospitals while others were treated there and there will be an investigation and we'll bring you pictures as they come into the news room as well. new developments regarding a fatal plane crash in russia. new video surfacing of the airliner as it careened off the runway and on to a highway in moscow yesterday. the impact sending debris flying into oncoming traffic, including a tire that slammed into a car. no passengers were on board at the time only crew members and the death toll risen to five after a flight attendant. the remaining three survivors listed in mythical or serious condition. hospitalized tonight. no injuries listed of people on the ground. including that car. and investigators are trying it determine what went wrong and one official is looking at faulty brakes to blame for the crash. two teenagers inju

the oregon border is still closed after a series of crashes. at least 60 cars lost control on black ice near the anderson grade. that is outside of yreka. that was last night. cal fire says the roads were extremely icy at the time. 16 people were injured. seven had to be taken to the hospital. >>> 5:36. san jose city college will hold classes today following yesterday's campus lock down. investigators say a man called police yesterday afternoon claiming someone had a gun at the technology building. students were evacuated about 5:00 p.m. expect for the technology building. that is where students were searched before they were allowed to leave. >> i don't think you can ever call this an over reaction. any time we receive a possible threat on campus, we have to take it seriously. >> now the last students were allowed to leave that technology building about 8:00 last night. this all happened in the middle of finals week on the campus. some of the students who had just graduated from the emergency medical technician program well their ceremony was cut short. >> took awhile. but took them awhile

is sending investigators to the scene of yesterday's deadly tour bus crash in oregon that killed 9 people. dozens more were hurt when this bus slid off an icy stretch of. >> i hawaii and plunges down an embankment. >> reporter: we just got the latest numbers. 9 dead, 26 injured. this happened near personle on, oregon they call deadman's pass. this is the only section of that road that has that steep of an embankment. investigators believe the bus rolled at least three times before crashing down into that rocky basin. the local fire chief called the rescue organized chaos. >> 20 years and this is the first time i have seen anything like this. it appeared most of the patients had been ejected from the bus as the bus went down the cliff. >> reporter: first the rescue teams had to scale down that embankment. then bring the round up to the highway for you treatment. the number of injured and dead quickly rows. passengers who survived said those in the back of the bus fared better than those in the front of the bus. victims were flown to portland, oregon and boise, idaho. the bus is owned by a

a lot of heavy snow among higher elevations across portions of oregon, over a foot of snow recorded and a lot of heavy rain. some spots picked up to 15 inches of rain across northern california. unfortunately we deal with mudslides and widespread flooding in california, oregon even into washington. fortunately we have relatively quiet weather through parts of california and portions of seattle. showers across the portions of the pacific northwest. as we head into tomorrow and wednesday we have a new storm system that will be arriving producing a lot of heavy rain, three to six inches. the ground is saturated from the last series of storm systems. this could pose big issues across the areas already hit very hard with all this rain. look at the future radar as we head into tuesday and wednesday more rain. basically the northern parts of the rockies we have snowfall. we'll see snowfall across portions of the west coast but even into the northern rockies. dealing with more moisture across portions of west coast even though we dealt with a number of storm systems. jon, very quickly anoth

in oregon. >> the coast guard is working to clean up an oil spill leaking into a new york city strait. an oil tanker is leaking more than 100-thousand gallons of oil just off of staten island. crew members on the barge noticed the leak, and contacted an oil clean-up company to help in the efforts. waterways remain open as they clean-up the mess. boaters in the area are urged to take caution in the meantime. >> coming up on kron 4 news weekend. a mother whose son was in the classroom with the shooter in connecticut talks about the moment she learned about the shooting. and as we go to break. here are some of the names of the victims from friday's tragedy. schoolers coming together to sing in honored of those lost. in oregon, hundreds gathering for a candlelight vigil. in what has become a national day of grief. but of course that grief felt nowhere more than right here in newtown, where you're looking at makeshift memorial, outside of sandy hook elementary school, people coming together there this evening to try to understand what happened. and try to comfort one another. our abc news team here on the ground covering it all and this evening for the first time, we're learning the names, seeing some of the faces of the young victims, all of them first graders. the medical examiner reporting a short time ago, many of them were shot at close range. and this evening, we begin with a father who lost his little girl. as you drive through this community, the signs of grief are inescapable. on the side of to road, we love you sandy hook elementary. tonight, we're hearing a father's anguish. robbie parker lost his daughter emilie. she was 6. >> teaching her how to read, dance and the simple joyce of life. her laugh was infectious. >> reporter: this ev

is the very type of assault weapons we saw in sandy hook, aurora and the shopping mall shooting in oregon. you can go further back. those are the three last mass shootings in america. they all have the ar-15 assault rifle. let's give it a new name. these are military machine guns. these are weapons you can buy at walmart, and they can fire four to six bullets a second. 100 bullets in a minute. the killer that went to sandy hook school had enough guns and enough magazines and enough bullets to murder the entire school. and his intention was possibly to do that very thing. if that had happened you would have had 600 deaths of children in one incident. and i'm sure nobody would be arguing about this, but i cannot understand coming from britain, where in 1996 we had the massacre in dunblane scotland, 16 5-year-old children were killed. as a result, there was a complete handgun ban across the country. we've had no shootings like that since. at the same time in australia, they had a similar incident. 35 people killed in tasmania, they brought in big bans on these type of assault weapons, they've had
